Product Review - Remington Tribal Compact Tong!

Hi lovelies!

Happy July! Golly, who would've thought this year would be passing so quickly?! It feels like it was barely January yesterday and it's suddenly July now! I actually meant to do a different post today, but alas, it's been a crazy weekend and I have still got to do some reading for work before I can hit the sack, so I'm going to do a quick product review on the Remington Tribal Compact Tong instead. In case you haven't seen it before, this is what it looks like.

(Sourced from Google)

As the name infers, it's the miniature, travel-friendly version of the full sized Tribal Tong. I picked it up on sale from Priceline a little while ago for a record breaking $10! I've been wanting a clamp-free curler for a little while (hooray for no 'dents' in your hair) and I simply couldn't resist it for that price. The only downside is it's a little small for my hair length, so I think I'll be investing in a full-sized one very soon! I think this one is perfect if you have short to medium length hair. I do like using this mini version on my mid to end lengths though, it does give you some very pretty curls and waves!

So here's a little bit on the features you get with this:
  • It comes in gorgeous purple or hot pink (I have the purple and I've actually been inspired to do an EOTD based on this at some point).
  • Premium titanium coated barrel, the mirror smooth surface prevents snagging and maximises heat transfer. It's also wear resistant.
  • It has a cool tip so you can turn it without burning yourself.
  • On/off switch with two variable heat settings (150°C and 200°C).
  • Swivel cord for accessibility and ease of use.
  • Ready for use in 30 seconds.
  • Comes with worldwide voltage so you can use it all over the world.
  • Comes with a 2 year warranty.

Here are my thoughts on this appliance; I really liked it, I've gotten reasonably nifty using my straightener to create curls, but I actually managed to do most of my head with this in a shorter time than I'd normally take with my straightener! Not bad for my first try! I found it very easy to wrap locks of hair around the tong, wait a few seconds and release, and I got a lovely looking spiral curl with minimal effort! I also didn't burn myself on it, although I think I'll definitely be trying to pick up a heat resistant glove just for safety sake.

It heated up very quickly (I used the lower heat setting) and my hair still felt  healthy after using it (I did use a heat protectant and highly recommend you do the same)! I was just experimenting with it and so, didn't put as much effort in as if I'd been planning on a night out, but it still turned out quite well, and I ended up with gorgeous looking waves even two days after (and this was without using hair spray)! I do apologise for the photo quality, I hadn't really planned on experimenting so I had to use my iPhone to snap these photos! The last photo has a bit of a halo effect as it was raining outside and so the light coming in was rather diffused.

This is what it looked like brushed out the next day.

Overall, I think it's a great buy and I have often seen it discounted at Priceline and on online sites like Catch of the Day, so do keep an eye out if you'd like to pick this up!

Much love,
MM.

    1. I agree, very handy indeed! I love the sound of the Babyliss one and cannot wait to see you modelling your curls (hint, hint).

I am presently using Dove (http://www.mydove.com.au/en/Products/Hair/Hair-Treatments/Dove-Damage-Therapy-Heat-Defense-Heat-Activated-Mist.aspx) but I also have this Redken one, which is also good (http://www.redken.com/products/styling/heat-styling/hot-sets-22)!

I have also heard great things about the GHD heat protectant but I haven't tried it yet!
