Product Review: BYS Magnetic Polishes.

Hi lovelies!

I put out a question on my Facebook profile a few days ago, asking what you all wanted to see next on the blog, and the answers were heavily skewed towards a nail art post, which is what brings us to today's post on the BYS Magnetic polishes!

If you are new to the concept, magnetic polishes are a special range of polishes containing metallic particles. The theory is you hold a specialised magnet (usually located in the cap of the polish) close to the polish after painting your nails (this must be done while the polish is still wet) and you get a ripple effect forming where the metallic particles are drawn to the magnet. It's really a very easy form of nail art as different magnets can give you waves, spirals, stars and many other designs.

BYS magnetic polishes.

I'm not new to the magnetic effect, as I have Ulta3 and Layla magnetic polishes in my stash (I promise I will eventually get around to reviewing them) but it can be a little fiddly to get used to initially. My advice is to always get the nail as close to the magnet as possible, but without being so close that the magnet can smudge your wet polish. Remember to always align the magnet in the same direction so that all your nails look similar (unless you want different patterns, of course)!

BYS Magnetic polishes
L-R: Jupiter, Venus, Fuchsia-ristic & Titanium.

I was sent four lovely shades, called Titanium (gunmetal grey) , Venus (metallic purple), Jupiter (gold) and Fuchsia-ristic (fuchsia), with two of the wave patterned magnets and two of the diagonal striped magnets. Like the BYS graffiti polishes I reviewed earlier, these polishes are truly stunning on their own, even without the magnetic effect applied! I must admit I did struggle a little with some of these, sometimes the patterns developed beautifully on some nails but not so much on others!

BYS Magnetic Jupiter

I then thought it would be fun to do an alternating magnetics manicure with Fuchsia-ristic and Venus, and this is what it turned out like!

As you can see, some of the polishes have a very striking pattern (like Fuchsia-ristic and Venus), while the others have a more subtle pattern (like Titanium and Jupiter). Overall, though, these are gorgeous shades and a complete steal at $6.95. There are nine shades in the BYS magnetic range (purple, pink, grey, gold, silver, red, blue, green and maroon), and they are available from Fashion Addict or from BYS stockists like Kmart and discount stores.

What did you think of these easy nail art polishes, lovelies? Are you into the magnetic effect? Do you think you might purchase these?

Much love,
MM.
x

    1. Thank you! Mine actually aren't that long, but I do have long nail beds so they always look longer than they really are. Have you tried taking supplements like Blackmores Hair, Skin and Nails?

  8. It has been years since I last purchased a BYS nail polish, I never had any luck with choosing a good one so I tend to stay away from them and choose the trusty Ulta 3 or NYC instead. I like the look of the magnetic polish but it's not something I would wear often.

  12. My brother lives in Australia so he sent his gf to get me some polish for xmas. Among others, I got the Violet magnetic polish. I had used plenty of magnetics in the past, namely from Sally Hanson, Nails Inc., Revlon etc. I have since come to the conclusion that the secret is the Iron powder concentration in the polish. I came to that conclusion after using the most effective polish magnet (BYS) with the other magnetic polish brands. While the magnet has a very obvious and striking effect on the Violet BYS shade, it fared poorly when used on other brands of magnetic polish.
I LOVE the Violet BYS magnetic polish. the magnet is designed with the finest waves/lines of all the mag polishes i tried, which makes it so much nicer and striking. It is particularly good if, like me, you have short nails and need a fine design for more than just one or two lines to appear, as is the case with the Nails Inc & sally hanson. As for the Revlon brand, it was a complete failure as a polish. the design hardly showed up, the magnet is way too small, and unlike the other polishes, the cap doesn't come apart so you have a seperate magnet from the wet nail brush. it just makes it very awkward.
Anyway. Point is, I am having some more BYS goodies shipped to me (in canada) direct from Oz as I am completely impressed!
