February 2013 Lust Have It Review.

Hello lovelies!

My February LHI box just arrived, and so, I thought I should get started on the review! Apologies in advance for the photographs, they always go a bit wonky when I update from the iPad (I'll fix them up when I get home later). Now, if you've been following me for a while, you're probably wondering where the December and January reviews are...well, I'm a bit behind as I only just got back this week, so I will probably do mini-reviews of them a bit later (please stay tuned)!

All subscribers received a newsletter a few days ago indicating that our boxes had been dispatched, but as this Valentine's Day box had 3 full sized products in it, it was found to be too big/heavy to fit into the new collectible packaging, and had to be sent in a simple white box. One sample was also left out and would be sent in next month's box instead. While it was nice of them to let us know, I actually had an item each missing from the Dec AND Jan boxes respectively! I emailed customer service and Jo was kind enough to reply stating that it would be sent to me in the next few days (so stay tuned).

Here's what I found in my February box:

Summer Tan by Mancine - Self Action Tan in Dark (full sized)

Styli-Style L3 Timeless Lipstick (full sized)

The Natural Source Camouflage Colour Nail Lacquers (full sized)

Lon Vitalite C9 Moisturising Hand Mask (1 pair)

The missing item was the Bioderma Atoderm Cream.

Now, on to the photos:

So what did I think of this month's box? Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed. I really can't use yet another tanning product, particularly when my profile already indicates that I have medium to dark skin. The long wear lipstick would have interested me if it weren't for the fact that it's really pale and will probably make me look dead. As you can see on the photo below, I've swatched it on my hand and think it would look better on fairer skin, I think a slightly deeper colour would have been more versatile and suited more skintones than this one.

I would ordinarily have been excited about the nail lacquer, as I haven't heard of this brand, particularly as it's supposed to be free of nasties, but the muddy shade is definitely not something that would look good on my skintone. The only product that I would be happy to try is the moisturising hand mask.

Now, I realise that the shades are a bit of a 'lucky dip' and ordinarily, wouldn't be too bothered, but the shades I received in my December and January LHI boxes have all been earthy brown/red-brown tones, and three similar ones in a row is a bit much to take! While I pride myself on wearing most shades and always being happy to experiment, it's a little disappointing when three boxes in a row have dull shades.

Verdict? I'm not very happy with this month's box, and I find it a bit disappointing. I have actually been contemplating dropping my subscription as I'm overrun with samples at the moment, and storage is rapidly becoming an issue. While I do love LHI on the whole, this month's box isn't doing much to sway my thought processes on dropping my subscription.

What did you think, lovelies? Did you get a different box? Were you happy with yours?

I'm actually happy to give the tanning product away to a new home (if anyone is willing to pay for postage).

Much love,
MM.

  1. Lipstick shade looks workable. But that nail polish is a no no.
And summer tan dark... gosh It is a good product but you don't need it at all. Let me know if you don't want it. The ladies at work faux tan and would love it.

    1. It's sweet but I don't think very versatile...except perhaps on very fair skintones.

  3. Hmm I think you are right about the nail polish, it's going to clash! And true, what do you need dark tanning products for!?
I have yet to receive mine, but I think I'll be slightly disappointed too, sadly. I actually wanted the box more than anything haha!
The Hand Mask is lovely though, I've actually reviewed it on my blog in the past, it's a nice pampering treat for your hands! :)

  4. I havn't received my box yet but from what I've seen so far it doesn't look like a good one =S the only thing I like to look of is the hand mask :)
Its a shame they don't have a better system of matching peoples preferred shades/tones when it comes to colour specific products.

    1. I agree, the hand mask is the stand out seller in this box!

I agree, I think they did a better effort before they took over Glossybox!

  5. Oh, I got the exact same box as you! Colours and all!

I am really happy with it! Different strokes for different folks, huh?!

I think us subscription box buyers need to realise they do not check out profiles! No way! haha. Hopeless!

I am not all that fair myself but I am excited to try this faux glow... I have heard great things about it.

    1. Exactly, we are all different after all, glad that yours suit you well.

I think it's a little bit pointless having profiles if you aren't going to follow them. :)

I also think that a very small percentage of the population engages in tanning products regularly, so it's a little annoying when we keep getting these products in our boxes.

  7. The lipstick actually looks too pale for me and that's saying something! I love pale pink but this one is too pale pink.

I really don't believe companies should send tanning items to anyone unless they've requested it via their profile.

Having said that, I don't subscribe to any of the boxes and I'm starting to feel pleased that I don't.

    Great blog though.
    With love,

    1. You're so right, Trish!

I love pale pink too but it's a hard shade to get right, particularly on all different skintones. There's no such thing as one shade to fit all colouring.

      Thank you for your comment!

  8. There is an iPad blogging app called Blogsy where you can insert the pictures wherever you want in the post - I have the same problem whenever I use the Blogger app. It's the best 5 bucks you'll spend today! ps - it sounds like I work for them but I really don't!!

  9. The subscription services really need to find a way to start tailoring their products to the profile of their subscribers - otherwise what's the point of sending stuff they can't use or wouldn't work on them? I can understand your disappointment. I've never been particularly tempted by any subscription beauty boxes, especially since the offerings in Australia pale in comparison to those in the US and UK.

  10. Nal, I on the other hand get products that are way too dark for my skin ( you know im as white as a ghost) and would LOOVEEEE the fake tan you got as I didn't get it :)
I have gold eyeshadow from this box that I think you would like, and darker pink/red lipstik and a way too dark for me bronzer.
    You want?
In fact last few boxes I have are way too dark for me.. you can have them.

  11. What a spam from the above comment!!!

Anyway, I am so over the Lust Have It box!!! Why can't they customise better??

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lust Have It don't have profiles at all, so they can't customise boxes.
Much prefer no profiles, rather than Bellabox who do have profiles, but still don't send out products that are suitable for age or skin tone, hair colour etc...
