Product Review: Makeup Academy (MUA) | Power Pout Lip Tint (and Swatches).

Hello lovelies!

I hope you're all doing fantastically well! Here's a post I promised a few beloved readers a little while ago, I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to get it done! Oh well, better late than never, let me introduce you to the MUA Power Pout Lip Tints, which have taken up permanent residence in my handbag! The Power Pouts are retractable lip crayons which are quite similar to a tinted lip balm (but with better pigmentation than you usually get in a tinted balm).

MUA say "the Power Pout is a lip treatment with colour intensity that relieves dry, cracked lips, providing immediate moisturisation. The handy pencil-style applicator provides easy to apply sheer soft lip colour and rolls up for easy use."

MUA Power Pout Lip Tints.

As my long time readers know, I'm somewhat obsessed with lip crayons! There is something to be said for colouring your lips in with a jumbo pencil...I find it easy to apply my lip colour even without using a mirror (that could be my party trick, perhaps?), and let's face it, it's just FUN!

There are six shades available in the range, as detailed below:

Irreplaceable - Lilac pink
Rendezvous - Peach nude
Broken Hearted - Pink
Justify - Coral pink
Crazy in Love - Maroon
Runway - Red

Keep reading after the jump!

I have all of these except for Runway, which I skipped as I thought I had too many reds, but I now regret making that decision!

MUA Power Pout - Irreplaceable, Rendezvous, Broken Hearted, Justify and Crazy in Love.

The Power Pouts are really soft and moisturising, they are very smooth and slide evenly over your lips without any tugging. There is a slight minty feel and scent, which I personally find very refreshing, but it does fade after a little while. I don't detect any tingling upon application, as some minty products are known to do.

Top to bottom - Irreplaceable, Rendezvous, Broken Hearted, Justify and Crazy in Love.

How does it perform as a treatment? I'm the perfect person to test this on as I always have chronically dry lips. These do have a tendency to settle in dry areas somewhat; it doesn't settle in lines or become patchy, per se, but you can observe a noticeable difference. However, after giving it a little time to sink into your lips, you'll find your lips becoming a little bit smoother and softer, so it does perform really well as a lip conditioner! At the time of writing this, I've been wearing Crazy in Love all day, and I find my lips are definitely in much better condition than when I first put these on.

Top to bottom - Irreplaceable, Rendezvous, Broken Hearted, Justify and Crazy in Love.

Irreplaceable and Rendezvous are definitely the paler shades in this collection, yet it's fairly easy to build the pigmentation. I had thought that Rendezvous would be too subtle for my pigmented lips, but strangely enough, it actually provides a pretty flush of very natural colour, a very 'my-lips-but-better' (MLBB) shade. The other shades are actually pigmented enough that they cover my natural lip line, yet the sheer texture makes them lightweight and more comfortable to wear than some lipsticks, particularly when your lips are in less than perfect condition. Crazy in Love is the darkest shade I own, and it's quite lovely when paired with a taupe smokey eye. While the colour itself is quite dark, the sheerness of the shade makes it very wearable.

The MUA Power Pouts do stain a little, but only slightly, and more so with the deeper shades. They last about 3-4 hours on me with drinking, but I have to touch up after eating.

I sense that some of you are going to ask me how it compares to the Revlon Just Kissable Balm Stains and Clinique Chubby Sticks. I've plenty of both, so I think I can easily compare between the three.

The MUA Power Pouts win over the Revlon Just Kissable Balm Stains because I find that constant reapplying of the Revlon stains makes the colour gradually deeper, and it tends to also leave a much stronger stain, however, the colour of the MUA Power Pouts always remains constant.

Much as I love my Clinique Chubby Sticks, the Power Pouts also win there for one simple reason; both products have similar texture, pigmentation and glossiness, but the Power Pouts retail at a mere fraction of the cost of a Chubby Stick!

The MUA Power Pouts retail at £3.00 each (approximately $5 Australian dollars), but MUA often run promotions, so you could potentially pick them up for a steal. I'd suggest signing up to the newsletter or their Facebook page so you never miss out on a good deal. International shipping to Australia is priced at £7.50 and takes approximately 5-10 business days (not too shabby when it's coming from the United Kingdom), but you can often find specials where free shipping is included.

There you have it, lovelies, my review of the Power Pouts! Are you tempted by these? Do you love a good lip crayon as much as I do?

Much love,
MM.

  1. I've done a review on these and I love them! I also have dry lips and I can see and feel a difference when applying them. I often wear them under lipstick to make my lipstick glide on smoother and so it doesn't settle in the cracks of my lips! Cannot fault them one bit!

    1. Hmm, I'd say it depends on the shade...but probably the Revlon JBKBS stains worse...I have several Revlon shades that just seem to go really fluoro on me after several reapplications during the day.

    1. A little bit but not too much, and it does depend on what shades you pick.
