Introducing Illamasqua Freak Eau de Parfum and Illamasqua Freak Scarab Extrait de Parfum.

Hi lovelies,

You all know how much I love fragrances, so let me introduce you to two favourites which are currently getting a lot of wear time for me, Freak Eau de Parfum and Freak Scarab Extrait de Parfum*, by Illamasqua.

I'm a big fan of Illamasqua makeup, and the perfumes were 'love at first sniff' for me!

Freak Eau de Parfum is the original scent from Illamasqua. It's quite intriguing, with a deep, musky flavour traditionally present in male fragrances. Here are the top, heart and base notes as specified by Illamasqua.

TOP NOTES
Black Davana, Opium Flower and Belladonna bewitch the senses into uncontrollable lust and passion.

HEART NOTES
Poison Hemlock, Datura and Queen of the Night blossom, caress and kiss.

BASE NOTES
Aromas of Frankincense, Oud and Myrrh, addictively mesmerises and captures the senses.

Illamasqua Freak Eau de Parfum

Do I agree with these? Absolutely. Freak is an intense, floral scent and you can really detect the frankincense once the scent has settled down a little. I prefer the heart and base notes of this scent as it can be a little overwhelming when it's first applied. This scent has a lot of longevity on me and I love how I can still scent it on myself even after a long day. Extra points for the stylish, angular yet simple design of the bottle. It somehow manages to be mysterious, sexy and classic, all at the same time! The larger sizes come with an extra edge on the bottom corner, so you can actually stand it on an angle (more on that later down). Perfect for wearing on that special date when you wish to impress.

To give you an idea of the appeal of this scent, I introduced it to two different friends...both bought it!

Illamasqua Freak Eau de Parfum

Freak Scarab Extrait de Parfum* is the newest addition to the Illamasqua fragrance family. Before I go any further, I have to mention how impressed I am with the gorgeous box. Embossed with the design of a python, the black and gold colour theme is really stylish, and it definitely made a big impression.

Illamasqua Extrait de Parfum

Here's the interesting thing about Freak Scarab*. It's marketed as a unisex scent, but I actually think that would fit the description of Freak (the original) better! I find Freak Scarab* very soft, floral and subtle, with an undertone of sweetness that would better fit females. It also doesn't have the longevity and depth that Freak has, which is surprising as the Extrait de Parfum is usually stronger than the Eau de Parfum! Here are the top, heart and base notes as specified by Illamasqua.

TOP NOTES
Blood Orange, Neroli Absolute and Ylang Ylang awaken and entice the senses.

HEART NOTES
Davana Oil entwines with Egyptian Jasmine, Honeysuckle and Queen of the Night to form a sensual heart.

BASE NOTES
The warmth of stewed plum creates a distant depth, leading to the rich ancient accord of Mousse De Sax- Geranium, Anise, Moss and Leather.

Illamasqua Extrait de Parfum

The bottle is very similar in design to that of Freak, but with the addition of a gorgeous golden scarab on the side. As I mentioned above, you can actually lean the bottle on an angle, which makes for a more interesting display. I think this is the perfect fragrance to wear to work, or out to dinner with friends.

Illamasqua Extrait de Parfum

I hope you enjoyed my review of these perfumes, lovelies!

Freak retails at $53 (for a 30 ml bottle) and Freak Scarab* retails at $130 (for a 100ml bottle) and are available from all Illamasqua counters in Myer, or from the Myer online store. Alternatively, you can also purchase them directly from the Illamasqua UK website where they retail at £34 and £85, respectively.

Have you tried either of these fragrances before? If not, do the descriptions make you want to try it?

Much love,
MM.

Note: Freak Scarab Extrait de Parfum was sent to me for consideration, while I purchased Freak Eau de Parfum. This has not affected my opinion in any way. For more information, please refer to my Disclosure Policy.

  2. I *love* these and they certainly on my wish-list, but even if I'd never heard of them I'd seek them out from that description; ' Poison Hemlock, Datura and Queen of the Night blossom, caress and kiss.' Swoon.

  4. I had a sniff of this at Myer, and while I liked it at first, once it dried down, it wasn't quite as nice on me!

    1. I would definitely recommend always testing it out before buying, because perfumes react so differently on each of us thanks to our individual body chemistry! :)
