Hi lovelies!
Have you heard of éllie makeup before? The line was founded by a lovely Melbourne makeup artist, named, you guessed it, Ellie! I had the opportunity to meet Ellie earlier this year when one of my best friends got married, as she was the makeup artist responsible for the entire bridal party. Now, I'm no stranger to getting my makeup done, but Ellie really impressed me as she had my entire face done from scratch in twenty minutes, which included the application of false lashes!
I did go ahead and purchase the lipstick she used on me for my friend's wedding earlier this year (it's called Luxe Lisse Creme), so when I was offered the chance to try some of the other makeup in her collection, I jumped at the opportunity! I also decided to create a makeup look using her products, which you can find below. I was sent a mineral liquid powder foundation (a liquid which dries to an almost powderlike finish) in Sandy Beige, the 5 eye palette in Smoulder and a blush/bronzer duo in Sunset. I also used the lipstick which I had purchased from her in this look; it's called Sleek, the texture is really creamy and comfortable on the lips. Unfortunately, I forgot to include it in the photos below! Epic beauty blogger fail!

So what are my thoughts on the products? First up, let's talk packaging. The simple black tubes/compacts are stylish and elegant, yet very functional. The clasps close firmly but are simple to open, which means you'll never have to worry about breaking a nail!
Mineral Liquid Powder Foundation in Sandy Beige
The squeeze tube makes it easy to dispense the exact amount you're after without wastage, and the foundation also provides mild sun protection with SPF15. The oil free formula is lightweight, quite comfortable on the skin, and would suit most skintypes. I would classify this as a medium coverage foundation, though you can build it up somewhat. It does spread quite nicely on the skin but I do feel like I have to use a fair amount before I'm satisfied with the coverage. I also love that it looks great with flash photography.
5 eye palette in Smoulder
The five shades in the Smoulder palette are a shimmery white, metallic silver, taupe, matte grey and shimmery black. The white is a little tricky to use as it is a little bit chalky, but it works well as an inner eye highlight. The silver is a dream to work with, as is the taupe. I had a little trouble with the matte shade as it didn't seem to be showing up on my eye as much as the other shades were.
Blush/bronzer duo in Sunset
I loved this blush/bronzer duo. Sunset is the darkest in the range, but there are also two other options for different skintones. This is a good contouring bronzer on me, and a great neutral blush, but it probably wouldn't show up on skintones darker than mine.
I've included swatches for the blush/bronzer and shadows below.
Swatches: Sunset bronzer/blush duo and the five shadows in the Smoulder palette from palest to darkest. |
Here's the makeup look I created using these products. I used the silver shade all over the mobile lid, with the matte grey on the outer third. I then used the taupe shade in the crease, and smoked it out a bit using the black in the outer 'V'. I also added a tiny bit of the white shadow in the inner eye to brighten up the look. I used a smudger brush to apply some of the black shadow under my lower lash line, before waterlining with a black pencil from Eye of Horus. I used a gel liner from Essence on my upper lash line and false lashes from Glam by Manicare. Brows were done using a Mary Kay brow pencil and set with Gimme Brow by Benefit.
I'm also only wearing the Éllie foundation, bronzer and blush in this look, not even a setting powder! Under eye concealer is an old favourite, the Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer.
Do you like the sound of these products by Éllie?
The foundation retails for $62, the blush/bronzer duo for $48, the eye palette for $58 and the lipstick for $34. I can only think of one downside, and that is the products are a little on the pricy side, so it's important to get colour matched accordingly. Do check the website out for the full list of products, and a list of stockists carrying her products.
Much love,
MM.
