Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Review & Swatches!

Hi lovelies!

How's your week off to so far?

I must say that mine has been going quite well, because I've been busy playing road-testing all the new release lippies that Maybelline launched this month! You can read my review of the Color Blur Matte Pencils here, if you missed it earlier. As much as I loved those pencils, I have to say that the new Color Sensational Creamy Mattes had my heart beating just that tiny bit faster!

I have a love-hate relationship with matte lipsticks, because as much as I love the way they look on the lips and how long-lasting most mattes are, I hate how dry they can feel. As a result, I couldn't wait to see if these really lived up to the 'creamy' promise! Let's take a look, shall we?

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte lipsticks.
I received three of the lipsticks in my little care package, but I believe there's a total of eight shades that will be available here. The colours I got were:

655 Daringly Nude - soft brown nude
670 Ravishing Rose - blue based pink
680 Mesmerizing Magenta - bright berry pink

Keep reading after the jump!

Firstly, let's talk packaging. These look just like the other lipsticks in the Color Sensational range, but are packaged in a frosty taupe grey case instead of a clear one. The lids click close quite securely so there's little chance of it coming apart in your handbag. The other, (small) drawback to the case is that the lipstick name/colour label is on the bottom, so you have to turn it over to check which one you've picked up.

So what did I think of the formula? I was pretty impressed. These are smooth, creamy and quite pigmented, which is about all you can ask for from a matte lipstick! They glide smoothly across the lips during application, without that dry tugging that you can get from some matte lipsticks. Most importantly, they don't dry to a tacky finish, but remain feeling quite comfortable on the lips through eating and drinking. These can transfer slightly but I managed to eat a sandwich without having that dreaded colour transfer to the chin, so I consider that a win. They don't dry out the lips at all, but I would suggest prepping well with a lip balm and blotting it off before application. I only had to touch up my lipstick once while wearing these all day, so longevity gets a big tick of approval there too.

The shades I got were quite pretty and very wearable, and I can't wait to see what the other shades in the range look like! I've been loving Mesmerising Magenta for a pop of colour in these bright, sunny days.

Swatches (L-R): #655 Daringly Nude, #670 Ravishing Rose and #680 Mesmerizing Magenta.

What did you think of these, lovelies? Do you love a good matte lipstick or do you prefer a glossy finish?

The Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte lipsticks retail for $17.95 and will be available as of February 2016 in all standard stockists (Priceline, BigW, Target, Kmart and selected pharmacies).

Much love,
MM.
