TBX (The Beauty Exchange) - Magnetic Brushes Review!

I was recently sent some magnetic brushes and accompanying accessories (the Clique rectangle brush holder and medium cosmetic bag) from new(ish) Australian brand The Beauty Exchange, also known as TBX, and the nerd in me was super excited to try these! Something about the idea of magnetic brushes just gets me excited, and I also love that they're an Aussie company.

First up, let's talk about the brushes. Each brush is sleek, slim and black, all of which rendered them immediate hits with me! The bases of each brush are flat, which enables you to easily attach them to any magnetic surface (but more on that later). I was generously gifted with the six brushes below, namely the fan highlighter brush, foundation brush, eyeshadow brush, foundation buffer brush, stippling brush and concealer brush.

The stippling brush retails for $22.95 and consists of soft, densely packed synthetic fibres. While it can be used with cream, liquid and powder, I prefer using this with my liquid/cream blushers, and I sometimes also use it to apply powder to set my foundation.

The foundation buffer brush ($22.95) is also made up of synthetic fibres. It's incredibly dense, but it's so small that it does take a while to go over your entire face. The application it provides is pretty good, but I prefer using my Zoeva Grand Stippling brush for the whole face and then using this brush in tighter spots like around the nose/eyes. I quite like using this with my Hourglass Vanish Foundation stick.

TBX Foundation Buffer brush.

The foundation brush also retails at $22.95. It's synthetic fibres work quite well at applying liquid and cream foundations without leaving streaks. I do like this brush but out of personal preference, prefer using my BeautyBlender or the Zoeva Grand Stippling brush as it just seems a lot faster.

The highlighter brush ($22.95) is probably my favourite out of all the brushes. Made of natural badger hair, it's a little stiffer than some of the other fan brushes I own, but still works beautifully at dispensing the right amount of highlighter on the cheekbones. I also like using it to gently brush away any fallout from applying my eyeshadow.

The concealer brush and eyeshadow brush (both $14.95) are pictured below. The concealer brush is synthetic while the eyeshadow brush is made from natural fibres. I've used the concealer brush more on blemishes, as I prefer to use my fingers for under eye circles. The eyeshadow brush, on the other hand, is my second favourite brush of the lot, as it's great for packing shadow on the mobile lid, while the domed head is good for creating a cut crease!

Just a quick mention, I also really like the mesh cosmetic bag ($29.95) from the brand. It allows you to see inside so you can easily identify the products inside, and is both large and compact enough that you can carry a decent amount of products inside (together with the brushes, of course), and yet still fit it comfortably in your handbag. Perfect for both daily touch ups and also the occasional overnight stay!

The coolest feature, though, would have to be the Clique rectangle brush holder. This is magnetised so that you can hang your makeup brushes upside down once you've washed them! This prevents water from seeping into the ferrule and damaging the brush. Isn't that nifty?! You can still attach the brushes to anything magnetic to dry them upside down, but the Clique just adds an extra 'cool' factor, and makes a lovely display.

Verdict? I really like these! The only downside is that it's hard to store the brushes in a cup holder, as the magnetised handles tend to stick together. Still, it's not impossible, and just more something to be aware of.

I'd definitely be keen to try the other brushes in the brand, and they also have a range of accessories which look quite pretty. What do you think of these brushes, lovelies?
